27:59Now PlayingOn October 20, 2024 at approximately 3:20 AM, Deputies with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a Honda that had gone into a ditch on the 12100 block of Yorkhouse Road in Beach Park. Deputy Savage arrived on scene around 3:23 AM and he made contact with the father of the driver who was already on scene speaking with the other Deputies. The driver of the Honda, later identified as 24-year-old Jacqueline, was sitting in the back seat of her father’s pickup truck. He opened the door and asked Jacqueline to exit the truck. As she was walking to the back of the truck, she lost her balance and briefly fell into a ditch.
As he was speaking with Jacqueline, he detected the odor of alcohol and noticed other indicators of impairment. Deputy Marquina arrived on scene to assist shortly afterwards. She would later state that she was coming from North Chicago, and she would also admit to consuming alcohol before operating a motor vehicle. Based on their suspicion of impairment, Deputy Marquina asked Jacqueline to perform field sobriety exercises. Jacqueline initially hesitated to perform field sobriety exercises before agreeing to let the Deputy check her eyes. Deputy Marquina started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. Afterwards, Jacqueline declined additional field sobriety exercises.
After she declined additional field sobriety exercises, Deputy Marquina offered Jacqueline an opportunity to take a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT), but she refused. Based on the motor vehicle accident, the odor of alcohol, her admission to consuming alcohol, and her unwillingness to perform all field sobriety exercises, Jacqueline was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
After she was handcuffed, Jacqueline was placed in the patrol car and her vehicle was towed. Deputy Marquina transported Jacqueline was transported to the Lake County Jail for further processing. After being processed, she was eventually released from the jail pending her court appearance on November 27, 2024.
