At COP23 in Bonn, a high-level panel of experts held a thought provoking discussion on the enabling role of ICT in tackling climate change and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Panel members Luis Neves, Managing Director of Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), and Catherine Jaques Brissette, Corporate Responsibility and Environment Specialist of Bell, Canada, and Malcolm Johnson, Deputy Secretary-General of ITU, discussed how ICT can help other industries reduce their emissions. The 2017 winners of the Momentum for Change ICT Solutions focus area shared their on-the-ground examples of ICT-enabled climate solutions and inspiring stories of climate action. We go deeper with ICT Solution “SmartICE”: a near real-time monitoring and dissemination system to help people adapt to rapidly changing sea-ice conditions in Arctic Canada.
