At the 2017 Video Music Awards, MTV moved away from the traditional categories of Best Actor and Best Actress and instead presented a Best Actor award to Emma Watson. Ironically, it was for playing a very gendered role - that of Belle in Beauty and the Beast - though perhaps it was a nod to Emma Watson's work and advocacy on behalf of gender equality and feminism. The award was presented by self-described non-binary actor Asia Kate Dillon and was one of the first of its kind. We the Internet TV's Lou Perez discusses the implications.
