Strip clubs in New York City are beset by labor disputes. After clubs stopped hiring regular bartenders and began putting bottle girls or instagram models with large social media followings behind the bars, dancers have seen a large decline in income. The new "startenders" aren't stripping, but they're dancing and often working behind bars that block the stage. There's also been reports of them taking tips intended for dancers, and accusations of racism, as black dancers are at odds with white or latina bartenders.
