►For years TSA has had the ability to screen drinks bought inside the airport even after going through security. A recent uptick in use of these additional screening methods, which involve holding a test strip over liquids bought beyond the security checkpoints, led NBC4 Los Angeles news team to wonder why the sudden enforcement started.

KNBC reporters asked TSA what they were looking for in these cases, but no answer was provided. Instead TSA stated that, “These additional random tactics, such as gate screening, increase security by making it truly unpredictable.”

When asked for his take on the changes, aviation attorney Ron Goldman had reservations about the true purpose for these increased screenings, stating, “They have been opaque about why they are doing this.” While potential terrorists may be the target of these screenings, Mr. Goldman worries, “whether it be racial profiling or ethnic profiling, there is the danger that what they are really doing is profiling the public coming through.”
