►Timothy Loranger, aviation attorney and senior partner at Wisner Baum, spoke with LiveNow from Fox about the Nov 29. Osprey crash off of Japan.

They discussed the Osprey aircraft and the role that it has fulfilled for the military, and the dozen or so accidents involving the Osprey. These include the three crashes in the last year or so, notably the June 8, 2022 crash in California in which Loranger is representing several families. In that crash, the military determined the cause of the crash to be a mechanical failure of the clutch system (an issue that has been known about since 2010)

but they don’t know why the failure is occurring. Loranger, a Marine Corps vet, former pilot and aircraft mechanic (), says it has yet to be determined if the August crash in Australia and the November crash in Japan are related to the same mechanical issue as the June crash in California.

With the failure of the clutch system in the aircraft and them not knowing what is the root cause of the mechanical failures, why doesn’t the military hit pause and keep people as safe as possible? Unfortunately, the decision has been made that the mission is more important than finding the cause, Loranger explained.

He said, the families desperately want to know what the risks are going forward so that military members aren’t taking unnecessary risks when they fly the Osprey.
