Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., a House manager in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, argued that, despite the president saying that his July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was “perfect,” “nothing can be further from the truth.” Jeffries said the call is “direct evidence of President Trump’s solicitation of foreign interference in the 2020 election as part of a corrupt scheme.” House managers, who act as prosecutors in the trial, began presenting arguments on Jan. 22. The White House will give its defense after the House managers have been allowed 24 hours over the course of three days to present their case. The House of Representatives impeached the president in December on two articles--abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The trial will determine whether Trump is convicted of those charges and removed from office, or acquitted.
