10:24Now PlayingRep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., spoke Feb. 13 as House impeachment managers and former President Donald Trump’s defense team offered their final cases in Trump’s second impeachment trial. The Senate will vote on whether to convict Trump on a charge of inciting an insurrection for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump was impeached by the House in January, while he was still in office.
Raskin recounted the father who told his kids he may not see them again as he headed to the Capitol. Raskin said he first thought of it as a prosecutor, as “damning evidence,” but one of his kids said it was extremely sad that someone was misled to potentially risk their life for the president. His kid “thought of it as a human being,” he said.
Raskin said the impeachment vote will determine the future for American children, adding that “children of the insurrectionists are our children too, even the violent ones. They are Americans and we must take care of them.” He said Trump not only betrayed the country, the Constitution and his oath of office, but he betrayed the mob who followed him to the Capitol as well. He urged senators to defend the honor of the Capitol officers who protected them and to seek “impartial justice.”
