2:59Now PlayingVice President Kamala Harris said that she will never forget when then Arizona Senator John McCain cast the deciding “no” vote when Republican lawmakers tried to repeal the Affordable Care Act without a plan to replace it in 2017.
Harris said as vice president she helped strengthen the Affordable Care Act and as president she would help it grow.
“Donald Trump said he was going to allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices,” Harris said. “He never did. We did. And now we have capped the cost of insulin at $35 a month. Since I’ve been vice president, we have capped the cost of prescription medication for seniors at $2000 a year.”
Harris followed that by saying those rules should apply to all Americans.
“Access to health care should be a right and not just a privilege of those who can afford it,” Harris said.
Harris and Trump met for their first and possibly only debate on Sept. 10, hosted by ABC in Philadelphia. Harris replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee this summer after Biden gave a troubling debate performance in June, increasing calls for him to drop out of the race.
According to the latest PBS News/NPR/Marist poll, more than two-thirds of Americans say they will watch all or most of the debate. While many voters have already made up their minds, 14 percent of Americans say the debate will have a great impact on which candidate they choose.
