Welch, joining his Democratic colleagues on the committee, said he has concerns about President-elect Donald Trump’s remarks about targeting political enemies, if elected.
Bondi said she had “no discussion” with Trump about appointing a special prosecutor to use the Justice Department to go after President Joe Biden.
“No one will be prosecuted, investigated because they are a political opponent,” she said. “That's what we've seen for the last four years in [the Biden] administration. People will be prosecuted based on the facts and the law and fairly.”
Welch said he disagreed with her characterization of the past four years.
Bondi is a former Florida attorney general and has been a longtime ally of President-elect Donald Trump. This is the first of two hearings the committee has scheduled for the nominee.
