as posted by the channelSecretary of state nominee Marco Rubio gave credit Wednesday to the outgoing administration of President Joe Biden working in tandem with President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team to negotiate a three-phase ceasefire plan between Israel and Hamas.
Rubio said he was “hopeful” that the plan outlined by current Secretary of State Antony Blinken would be successful, and would return Israeli hostages being held in Gaza, though he didn’t mention the humanitarian crisis unfolding among Palestinians in the occupied territory.
He also noted that he believed new opportunities could arise in the Middle East to establish stability, alluding to the recent election of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and the overthrow of longtime Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.
“There are now factors at play in the Middle East that I think we can build upon and may open the door to extraordinary and historic opportunities,” Rubio said.
Rubio, the senior senator from Florida, was a one-time Republican presidential hopeful who ran against Trump. A former member of the Senate panel holding his confirmation hearing, Rubio also serves on the Select Committee on Intelligence.
