Rubio, who is currently the senior senator from Florida, is a son of Cuban immigrants and speaks fluent Spanish.
Rubio delivered the opening statement Wednesday at his confirmation hearing with the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. Rubio was also a one-time Republican presidential hopeful who ran against President-elect Donald Trump. A former member of the Senate panel holding his confirmation hearing, Rubio also serves on the Select Committee on Intelligence.
