1:17Now PlayingSen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, questioned U.S. attorney general nominee Pam Bondi in a confirmation hearing Wednesday held by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Lee said there’s been weaponization within the Justice Department against law-abiding citizens exercising their Constitutional rights. This included, the senator said, Catholics practicing their faith, parents showing up to school board meetings and people engaging in peaceful protests outside abortion clinics.
Bondi said these kinds of instances “must stop.”
Bondi is a former Florida attorney general and has been a longtime ally of President-elect Donald Trump. This is the first of two hearings the committee has scheduled for the nominee.
“Will stop. Must stop,” Lee said.
Lee also asked about branding parents as domestic terrorists or trying to incarcerate one’s political opponent, such as a sitting U.S. president.
