0:46Now PlayingSen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, asked Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., on Tuesday what she sees as the “most important lever” she might be able to wield to bring about reform at the United Nations.
Stefanik, President Donald Trump’s nominee for U.S. ambassador to the UN, named the United States’ vote on the UN Security and its influence as the biggest funder to the international body.
“We need to stand up for our values, American values, at the United Nations, and I said earlier in my testimony, if confirmed, I will represent the United States,” she said in her confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Stefanik, a loyal Trump ally, is chair of the House Republican Conference, and was the youngest woman ever elected to Congress when she won her seat in 2014. While she has little foreign policy experience, Stefanik has been vocal about Israel and its war with Hamas. She has called for a “complete reassessment” of the U.S.’s funding for the U.N.
