3:11Now PlayingCornel West joins Democracy Now! to give his reactions to this week's Democratic presidential candidate debates. Dr. West suggests that the corporate media, which had a heavy hand in sponsoring, framing and facilitating the debates, is part of the same machinery that gave rise to Trump. “The fascist Frankenstein Trump is very much a product of corporate media because they followed every minute, every tweet, every speech,” he says. “If they had done the same to my dear brother Bernie when we were traveling together — we had 10, 15, 20,000 people — they would have a little two-minute slice. Trump got every second because it was entertainment.” Dr. West goes on to point out that the corporate media's obsession with calling Trump “racist” has weakened the critical impact of that term. “The liberals think they are doing something militant, but this is just liberal self-righteousness,” he says. “We know he is racist and xenophobic. Let's keep track of the big money, military, tax cuts, ways that he is undermining the working class.”
