3:27Now PlayingAs Democratic candidates sparred over immigration policy and decriminalization, their proposed solutions need reframing, says immigrant rights activist Erika Andiola. "We keep going back to the same talking points of saying 'we need a path to citizenship and we need to secure the borders'," she says, following the first night of the CNN-hosted debates. "But in reality, there is a lot more to that." Andiola says President Obama's high deportation rates created a "machine" that has since been taken over by Trump, resulting in increased detention rates and ICE raids in major cities across the nation. Andiola is currently serving as the chief advocacy officer for RAICES, the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services.
