as posted by the channelGET OUT is a 2017 horror / suspense / comedy movie with racial overtones written and directed by Jordan Peele in his directorial debut. The basic plot of the movie the functionality of an interracial relationship between a black male named Chris (played by Daniel Kaluuya) and a white female named Rose (played by Allison Williams of HBO’s “Girls” fame). The couple take a trip to the woman’s parents’ house for the weekend and things go awry to say the least. It’s definitely a movie worth checking out to find out more of the plot points and to enjoy the overall experience. However, some will experience the movie in different ways than others for a variety of reasons.
Racial issues are front and center in this movie as is seen in the movie’s trailer. At the same time, racial issues are not necessarily the key thing in the movie. It is a suspense film that incorporates a lot of horror and some comedy in appropriate moments that don’t break up the film. Race is just an avenue utilized to make the experience that much more uncomfortable and/or scary for the viewer. GET OUT plays on the personal experiences of the viewer. Especially through the comedic elements that the film incorporates very well. It’s like the comedy breaks the 4th wall by listening and reacting to the feedback of the audience watching.
Some people will be offended at the movie and call it anti-white, but that’s quite honestly a very shallow and close-minded way of looking at it. NPR has a review that drew comparisons to a black-on-white revenge flick like Django Unchained. Which does not make sense because violence in a movie like GET OUT is more related to horror than anything else. And violence is of course a key trope in horror movies in general. Anyone that looks at the movie and uses it as fuel to a racial fire would do the same thing for any other little thing. People that go into it with an open mind would not. And they might just enjoy it, as many people have already.
