UGA Students for Justice in Palestine set up a Gaza solidarity encampment on Monday but were quickly dispersed, with 16 students being arrested.
This morning at 7am, a multiracial and multifaith group of students and Athens community members of conscience gathered at UGA to stand against genocide. They were met with almost immediate repression and police violence. Jeff Clarke, head of UGA Police, was recorded pulling a Black protester by their hoodie and dragging them to the ground. Shame! Another officer was filmed seizing a protester by her hijab and refusing to replace her garment when they uncovered her head, despite appeals for assistance. Shame! We are protesting a genocide! We should be protected and shown solidarity by UGA, not attacked!
