TRANSCRIPT
I asked Deborah Gonzalez and Kalki Yalamanchili, candidates for DA in Athens, Georgia, whether they would prosecute someone who drives a girl to another state to get an abortion, if that were made illegal. Some call it “abortion trafficking.” Here’s what they said.
Two Georgia women that we know of died because of these things because they couldn’t get the essential care because the providers are scared. They’re scared about are they going to be prosecuted for doing the thing they were sworn to do, which is to save lives, to help people. So I’m not going to accept the word “abortion trafficking” because to me that is really taking away from the truth of the matter. People need healthcare and they should be able to travel wherever they need to go to get it.
What I’m saying is, I can’t form an opinion on what you’re asking me without seeing the language of the law.
