So began a mad season of land gambling and property speculation. On the Gold Coast millionaires came up like mushrooms, and the backs of great corporations were broken. The end of it all is, on the surface at least, paradise.
Trevor Philpott reports from the Gold Coast of Queensland, the area which has been developed as a holiday destination for thousands of Australians over the last ten years, the area responsible for the making and loss of large fortunes in land speculation. What is it about this 20-mile stretch of coastline that proves so irresistable to huge swathes of Aussies?
