Keith heads to Dundee, home of DC Thomson - the publisher of schoolyard favourites The Beano and The Dandy - where scriptwriter Al Bernard and editor Euan Kerr are preparing The Beano's 50th Birthday issue. The Beano is choc full of iconic comic book characters; Dennis The Menace, Minnie the Minx, The Bash Street Kids, Roger the Dodger, Calamity James and Lord Snooty. What makes them so appealing?
From Dundee, Keith heads south to London, where he gets a rare interview with 2000 AD's alien editor, Tharg the Mighty. How does he get his droids to produce such impressive material?
Back in Dundee, Keith gets to appear (as himself) in one of Patches famous photostories. What is it that appeals to readers about photographed comic strips over handrawn ones? Keith chats to Patches' photo story editor Kerin McIntosh and assitant editor Felicity Donohue to find out.
To find out about animated cartoons, Keith heads to London to visit Bob Godfrey and his bumbling assistant, Henry's Cat. Bob shows Keith how Henry's Cat gets from the page to the screen.
To learn more, Keith speaks with one of the true giants of animation, Chuck Jones, whose work on the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of shorts for Warner Bros animation has had a profound and lasting effect on cartoons to this day. Chuck is responsible for some timeless cartoon characters - Marvin the Martian, Pepé Le Pew, Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner - and can count himself as one of the three fathers of Bugs Bunny.
Finally, Keith chats to Raymond Briggs, the author of The Snowman, Fungus the Bogeyman and When the Wind Blows about using animation to deal with serious subjects.
