Robert Reid reports on the standard of house building in Britain. In the next year, around 150,000 people will be buying new houses, for most of them it will be the single largest investment they ever make. But how much does the average person know about housebuilding? What are they looking for in a house? Can they be sure that their homes will be properly built? What can be done to protect buyers from shoddy builders?

Robert talks to the architect Eric Lyons, Mr Bailey of the National House Building Council, the Chairman of the Building Societies Association, J.R. Millican, the director of the National Housebuilders Registration Council, Norman Walls, Evelyn Dennington - a Member of the Government Committee on Housing, and a builder - Athelstan Whaley.
