While famed for his roles in The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, Duvall spent 15 years bringing his own passion project to life, The Apostle. He wrote, directed and starred in the film, which told the story of a preacher whose life spins out of control after he commits a crime of passion. The low budget film was also funded by Duvall and earned him a best actor nomination at the 1998 Academy Awards.
