Speaking to Vicki Young on BBC Politics Live, Labour MP Laura Kyrke-Smith said, "this isn't about a return to a pre-digital childhood, it's about setting our children up to succeed in the digital age."
"You can go down the Australian route of banning certain platforms, but equally what do you do about these addictive design features," she added.
Conservative MP Graham Stuart said he wants "to see the government go further" especially on social media.
Ben Lake MP from Plaid Cymru argued that a phone ban would improve children's learning.
