1:14Now PlayingFormer U.S. first lady Michelle Obama visited a school in southern Vietnam on Monday during a trip to promote education opportunities for adolescent girls so they can reach their full potential.
Michelle Obama, accompanied by Hollywood actresses Julia Roberts and Lana Condor and the Today show's Jenna Bush Hager, met with female students at a high school in the Mekong delta, where they listened to the girls speak about their lives and challenges at school.
They also joined the students in a life skills training session where the girls practiced topics including perseverance, critical thinking and negotiation and leadership skills that could enable them to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom.
Michelle Obama started her work on girls education when her husband was in the White House. She continues the charitable work through the Obama Foundation, with Girls Opportunity Alliance as one of its initiatives.
Last week, she announced she would donate $500,000 dollars from the sale of her book "Becoming" to the initiative's fund.
After the visit to Vietnam, Obama, together with husband Barack, will travel to Malaysia to speak at their Foundation's inaugural Leaders: Asia-Pacific gathering, an event set to bring together 200 young leaders across Asia Pacific to empower them to tackle challenges in their communities.
