1:23Now PlayingAustralian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Wednesday said 11 Australians remained unaccounted for following the volcano eruption on New Zealand's White Island.
Of the five people confirmed dead, up to three were Australian, he said.
He said he feared worse news was to come.
24 Australians - aged between 17 and 72 - were on board the Royal Caribbean cruise ship "Ovation of the Seas" and had travelled to the island for an excursion.
Morrison used to be director of the New Zealand Office of Tourism and Sport and visited White Island himself in the past.
