Sep 8, 20205:12Now PlayingPresident Donald Trump held a news conference from the White House to mark Labor Day on Monday, using the occasion to sing the praises of his administration's achievements and to criticise his presidential election opponent, Joe Biden.
Trump attacked Biden as a leader incapable of handling the coronavirus and reviving the economy.
The U.S. economy has been steadily rebounding from its epic collapse in the spring as many businesses have reopened and rehired some laid-off employees.
Yet the recovery is far from complete. Only about half the 22 million jobs that vanished in the pandemic have been recovered.
''Under my leadership, next year will be the greatest economic year in the history of our country,'' Trump said.
Trump praised the ''Operation Warp Speed'', the partnership between the Trump administration and the private sector to accelerate the development and distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine and therapies.
Under the operation, Trump said, the fatality rate has been reduced by 85 percent since April, when the program was first introduced.
