The latest crypto heist was the worst in history. Hackers managed to steal $600 million from the crypto platform Poly Network. Affected coins included Shiba Inu, Ether, Bitcoin and USDC.
Are hackers really trying to steal people’s money? Maybe not. This same hacker bragged that he was a “legend” and already returned most of the money back. The hack may have been just for clout.
Anytime crypto looks unstable, the conversation of cryptocurrency regulation will come up. SEC Chair Gary Gensler used this attack as an example of why more regulation is needed. He went as far as saying that the crypto space was “ripe with fraud, scams and abuses.”
