You've worked months creating your digital portfolio and increasing your assets, and now you're raking it in. Well, there's the crypto. What happens, though, if the unthinkable occurs? What would you do if you died suddenly? What would happen to your entire cryptocurrency portfolio?
If you die abruptly with fiat currency, such as the US dollar, your assets will be taxed, and an executor, such as a family member, will be given the ability to distribute the money as they see fit. As a result, your money would most likely be divided among family members.
With cryptocurrency, however, this is not the case. Because crypto is both digital and unregulated, it will remain in your digital wallet indefinitely if no one else knows the passwords. Consider a cash vault where the key is lost forever. That money is still there, and it has worth, but no one will ever be able to get their hands on it. After you pass away, your bitcoin and digital wallet will be just like that.
It's a good idea to share your digital wallet passwords with someone you trust to avoid your crypto from being lost permanently in the event of your death. This manner, your efforts will not be in vain. If you don't provide someone else access to your digital wallets, your crypto will be lost forever if you pass away unexpectedly.
