13:33Now PlayingThe German song "Der Gute Kamerad" was first written in the early 19th Century and is still used in Germany for military funerals. It also holds cultural significance in France, specifically with the Foreign Legion, and a number of other nations. But while generally used, and thus considered, in a modern context, and with most videos dedicated to it here on YouTube being based around the Second World War, I believe the song is most powerful when considered in its original context. That being of linear warfare, and the terrible mental anguish inherent to it.
