To secure the conviction, the Commonwealth presented a series of witnesses who seemingly sealed her fate. These included a cousin of Fowler’s who recalled Church saying, “If he ever cheats on me, I will poison him,” and the medical examiner who performed the autopsy. The examiner testified to finding calcium oxalate crystals in Fowler’s kidneys—a definitive sign of ethylene glycol poisoning. Ethylene glycol is the primary ingredient in antifreeze, the very substance Church used to murder Fowler.
