43:00Now PlayingDonald Wayne Hartung murdered his mother, Voncile Smith, 77, and half-brothers Richard Smith, 47, and John Smith, 49, in their Pensacola, Florida home in July 2015, beating them with a claw hammer, slitting their throats, and covering their bodies under mountains of clothing and blankets. The case made international headlines when Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan publicly blamed Wiccan witchcraft and a blue moon, a theory later debunked as investigators determined the motive was financial: Hartung had been cut from his mother's will but stood to inherit if his half-brothers were also dead. He was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole.
