He is charged with vessel homicide and manslaughter in a 2022 boat crash that killed 17-year-old Lucy Fernandez and left another teen permanently disabled. The state claims that this was not an accident or momentary lapse in judgment, and that Lucy is dead because he failed to do the most basic things that are necessary when on the water. Meanwhile, the defense claims Pino did not intend to hurt anyone that day and that he would never have put the young girls lives in jeopardy.
