"I have learned that you can do anything you want to. They used to ask me if I thought the First Lady ought to be paid. If you get paid, then I have to do what First Lady is supposed to do.
But you can do anything you want to and it's such a great soap box. I mean, it's just such a great opportunity. So I would - I would advise any First Lady to do what she wanted to do. If she doesn't - and another thing I learned is you're going to be criticized no matter what you do.
I could've stayed at the White House, poured tea, had receptions, and I would've been criticized as much as I was criticized outside of what I did, but - and I got a lot of criticism, but you learn to live with it, as I said earlier.
I mean, you just live with it. You expect it and you live with it and never let it influence me."
