Kellogg, located about 36 miles southeast of Coeur d'Alene, was founded by prospector Noah Kellogg after he discovered galena in the area during the late 19th century. Soon after Kellogg's discovery, the Bunker Hill Mining Company would be formed. For almost a century, the Bunker Hill Mining Company was the largest employer for the city of Kellogg until it closed in 1981. Julie Whitesel Weston, a native of Kellogg, recalls the history of the town, what it was like growing up there and the aftermath when the mine was shutdown.
