“Jesse Jackson changed American politics. Jesse Jackson changed the Civil Rights Movement. He was a consequential and transformative figure,” he said at a news conference in New York.
Rev. Sharpton noted that Rev. Jackson was one of the last two people to speak with Dr. King before his assassination in 1968 at the age of 39 — an event that, he said, propelled Rev. Jackson to keep moving forward.
