4:10Now PlayingSusan Glasser: "I think the big lesson that that Trump and Jared Kushner and others around him took from the first term was basically personnel, personnel, personnel, which of course, you know, most leaders, will, you know, learn that lesson eventually. And, you know, for them, it became all about the loyalty test. It became all about Trump was basically stymied, in his view, in the in the first term by appointing a series of advisers he didn't really know. Well, they weren't his own cadre. He'd never worked in government before that. That makes Trump such an outlier in our history, right? He's the first president never to have served in the military or in any previous government capacity. And it showed in this way. So he appoints people like these big, burly former marine generals, John Kelly to be his chief of staff, Jim Mattis to be the defense secretary. And it turns out some of these people are in his cabinet in order to stop Donald Trump, as far as Trump is concerned or to constrain him. And I think they saw the second term as loyalty. Above all, we're not going to have people here who aren't willing to do whatever it is I want them to do. And in fact, you know, they're not only imposing a certain kind of loyalty test on the staff, but even to the level of you can't have a senior position in this Trump administration unless you agree with the idea that the 2020 election was stolen."
