1:38Now PlayingTexas State Rep. James Talarico (D) addressed supporters Wednesday night after winning Texas's competitive Democratic primary for U.S. Senate.
"One thing is clear today, we're about to take back Texas," he said in Austin. "To the billionaires who have taken over our state and taken over our country, your unchecked power is coming to an end. Your days dividing working people are numbered."
Mr. Talarico thanked his primary opponent, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), for her endorsement and extended an olive branch to her supporters after what had at times been a combative primary.
"I know I wasn't your first choice, but I hope to earn your trust and earn your support," he said.
Mr. Talarico will face either incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) or Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) in the November general election — depending on the results of a May runoff to determine the GOP nominee.
