2:53Now PlayingRep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the former House speaker, thanked Capitol Police and other law enforcement officers for their actions in defending Congress during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack during the unveiling of a commemorative plaque Wednesday evening.
“Our brave men and women protected us,” she said, recounting being escorted to safety by Capitol Police as rioters stormed the building. “We’re eternally in their debt, we will never forget.”
The California Democrat said she hopes the plaque will serve as a lasting reminder of both the attack and the response by Capitol Police.
“When people visit the Capitol, they will always see a tribute to the bravery, to the courage, to the patriotism, to the debt that we owe our law enforcement officers on that terrible day,” she said.
