"They are begging to make a deal. Not me. They're begging to make it," he told reporters, adding that he was not sure whether he was even "willing" to make a deal. "The reason they want to make a deal is they have been just beat to shit."
The president also pushed back on reports that he was "desperate" to reach an agreement to end a war that a majority of Americans disapprove of.
"I read a story today that I'm desperate to make a deal," he said. "I'm the opposite of desperate. I don't care."
