YouTube Description
as posted by the channelVice President JD Vance on Tuesday said he welcomes when the pope speaks on certain issues because it sparks discussion, but warned Pope Leo XIV to be "careful" when he opines on "matters of theology."
Pope Leo, the first American pontiff, has become increasingly vocal in his opposition to the Iran war, drawing the ire of President Trump, who branded him "weak on crime" and "terrible on foreign policy."
The vice president, a Catholic, took particular issue with the pope's declaration that the followers of Jesus are "never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs."
"Was God on the side of the Americans who liberated France from the Nazis?" the vice president said at a Turning Point USA event at the University of Georgia. "I certainly think the answer is yes."
Vice President Vance said that if the pope is going to speak on "matters of theology," it's important that his comments are "anchored in the truth."
"In the same way that it's important for the vice president of the United States to be careful when I talk about matters of public policy, I think it's very, very important for the pope to be careful when he talks about matters of theology," he said.
