1:44Now PlayingRep. Greg Casar (D-TX) criticized Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for not meeting with Americans who lost health insurance after the enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies expired in January.
“Have you met with any of the 1.4 million people who have lost their health insurance just this last year from dropping off of Obamacare?” Rep. Casar asked at a hearing Friday.
“They’re almost all illegal immigrants,” Secretary Kennedy responded.
“It sounds like the answer is zero,” Rep. Casar said.
The Enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies were enacted during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic to keep insurance premiums down as costs rose.
Democratic and Republican lawmakers debated extending the subsidies during the 43-day government shutdown late last year but were unable to reach an agreement on their extension or reinstatement.
