YouTube Description
as posted by the channelSen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA) introduced a bill Wednesday to abolish super PACs, the political action committees able to raise and spend unlimited amounts.
"Today, our government is well on its way to becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of the oligarchs," Sen. Sanders said, citing Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY)'s primary loss last night in a race where outside groups spent more than $32 million to sway voters.
The Abolish Super PACs Act would restrict individuals' ability to donate more than $5,000 to said fundraising vehicles during an election cycle.
"Billionaires would not be able to pour huge amounts of money into super PACs," Sen. Sanders said. "It would end the era of unlimited spending and put power back into the hands of the people."
Rep. Lee concurred with the Vermont senator: "It is critically important that we move on this bill," she said. "If we will have a democracy, we have to reject an oligarchy."
