This week I've been speaking to the barrister Steven Barrett about the remarkable police response to protests in Epping, Diss and elsewhere. We also discussed the implementation of the Online Safety Act, another piece of legislation passed by the Conservative Party whose implications were poorly understood, and which, in the hands of our state bureaucracy, threatens to become a highly effective part of the repertory of repression of free speech in this country. Quite how that process will interact with the growing and increasingly angry protest movement against illegal migration remains to be seen. I normally try to conclude these conversations in a positive way. This week, I must confess, both Steven and I found that difficult. Nonetheless, I hope you find the talk interesting.
