YouTube Description
as posted by the channelRecent headlines were abuzz with a new report that documents that ADHD kills people. This shouldn't have surprised anyone, since several decades of research have documented that those with ADHD are at least twice as likely to be involved in serious car crashes and other accidents, and also have double the rate of suicide. On a positive note, medication treatment brings the rates of these outcomes back down to rates similar to the general population.
The recent study, on millions of residents of Great Britain, found that men with ADHD lived about 7 years less than their peers, and women with ADHD almost 9 years less. This is comparable to the impact of "serious" mental health conditions like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, and of diseases like diabetes.
This should counter the narrative that ADHD is trivial, or that it is only a "superpower". I end with several anecdotes about people killed by ADHD, since stories seem to be much more convincing to many individuals than do statistics.
