- Genetic Nurture and ADHD:
We've known for decades that genetics contribute strongly to the development of ADHD - heritability is around 80%. A recent Swedish study, using comprehensive medical records and detailed genetics connections between siblings, half-siblings, and cousins, examined one million children, and came to interesting conclusions. The genes a mother contributes to her child constitute about 66% of the risk for developing ADHD, while how her genes shape the environment she creates for raising children contributes another 14%, which is labeled genetic nurturance.
- Impostor Phenomenon and ADHD:
Impostor syndrome or phenomenon is when an accomplished individual feels inauthentic or that they will be revealed to be a fraud. This is not to be confused with actual frauds, or with accomplished individuals who are attacked by society primarily because they are members of minority groups. Neurodiverse individuals, particularly those with ADHD, are more susceptible to impostor phenomenon because they achieve their successes by unusual pathways, and may be inconsistent in delivering accomplishments.
