🟢 U.S. airstrikes and Somali government ground troops, including a militia trained by U.S. forces, killed at least 11 civilians, including seven children, during an operation in southern Somalia last month.

“The baby was motionless and I was trying to save my wife,” Mohammed Hassan Abdulle told Drop Site News. His seven-month-old daughter, Nurto Mohamed Hassan, was killed instantly when shrapnel hit her head and thigh. She had been wrapped on her mother’s back when the bombing began.

Witnesses from Jaaame, an area under al-Shabaab control in Somalia’s Lower Jubba region, said aircraft circled overhead for hours before shelling and airstrikes began, leaving body parts strewn on the ground and caught in trees. Abdulle said he tried to get his bleeding wife to a clinic, but “the shelling was like rain.”
