2:31Now PlayingIDAHO FALLS -- VO: Two Idaho Falls sweethearts Alyssa and Chris Brayton have been married for almost 9 years.
SOT: I met my husband at church, Alyssa says.
VO: After a few years of love and marriage the couple felt it was time to start having kids.
SOT: "We just kept trying and nothing was happening,” Alyssa says.
VO: A year ago the couple became serious about getting pregnant. They turned to a midwife and modern medicine to help them in their journey.
VO: Dr. Keith Blauer, Reproductive Endocrinologist spoke with EastIdahoNews.com and says he has seen many patients suffering from infertility.
SOT: "Specifically when I’m talking to patients there are four major areas that we focus on. One would be the quality of the man’s semen sample, two would be the quality of a woman’s eggs, three would be ovulatory function, and four would be anatomical problems,” Blauer says.
VO: After some testing doctors still didn’t know why Alyssa and Chris weren’t having success. Because Chris specifically had no complications the burden of becoming pregnant rested with Alyssa
SOT: - “It’s frustrating because all I want is a baby, all I want is to be a Mom, so it’s really frustrating to not know what is wrong, what am I doing wrong? For a long time I blamed God,” Alyssa said. “I finally came to realize that it’s not God, it’s just his plan right now.”
VO: Although Alyssa and Chris haven’t experienced success yet Blauer says there is hope for couples trying to have children.
SOT: “Most patients or couples can achieve a baby if they’re willing to use the technology and regrettably often time this is an expensive process," Blauer says, "We do what we can to try to help.”
VO: Alyssa says the next step is for she and Chris to determine whether In Vitro fertilization is the option for them. She says if you are in the same boat as them and don’t know where to turn, going to your family physician and asking questions is a good first step.
