2:13Now PlayingIDAHO FALLS – VO: A local company's ice cream selection just got a little bit sweeter with its new line.
VO: Farr Candy Co. that’s been doing ice cream for 105 years recently introduced 12 new premium flavors.
SOT: “We came up with this idea of creating a better ice cream and we wanted to have the best ice cream that people could buy on the shelf. We feel like people (want) a really good sweet indulgence,” general manager, Bill Call says.
VO: Owner Kevin Call says the names and flavors for the premium selection were inspired by local themes. Choices like Huckleberry Cheesecake, Yellowstone Mud Slide, and Death by Chocolate are unique treats locals can relate to.
SOT: “We just thought it would be neat to have something that would represent us a little bit more. We have two different huckleberry flavors,” Kevin says. “Those berries come from our area."
VO: Another unique flavor is the Hawaiian Vanilla Bean. Kevin says it’s exclusive to Farr.
SOT: “They grow vanilla beans on the big island of Hawaii and so we buy the vanilla. We’re one of two places in the United States that has Hawaiian vanilla ice cream,” Kevin Call said.
STAND UP: One of my favorites is their new Chunky Cookies and Cream flavor. It has a whole Oreo cookie right at the top.
VO: Bill says the premium ice cream stands apart from the original because of the amount of flavoring and richness in each carton.
SOT: "Our traditional flavors, they’re kind of just a mainstay ice cream," call said. "The premium ice cream is just loaded with-- we call it butter fat, which is cream. It’s what makes it very creamy and smooth, it’s what gives it a good texture,” Bill says.
VO: New flavors come in 56-ounce containers and can be found in stores.
SOT: “Happiness is a bowl of ice cream. I don’t think you see many people with a frown on their face when they’re eating ice cream,” Bill says.
VO: In Idaho Falls, I’m Natalia Hepworth, EastIdahoNews.com.
