5:34Now PlayingFlorida Governor Ron DeSantis is furious that no one is taking his ban on mask mandates seriously, and he is now threatening administrators who impose mask mandates. DeSantis says that he will withhold their pay if they force children to wear masks, but the threats aren't having the intended affect. DeSantis is being defied more and more, and that is only making him angrier and far less rational. Farron Cousins discusses this.

Florida children have headed back to school this week in some districts that are actually defining Republican governor Ron DeSantis, his ban on mask mandates and DeSantis is noticeably furious about the fact that these school districts would have the audacity to challenge his authority by actually trying to protect our children from the rising rates of COVID here in the state of Florida. In fact, things are so bad here in the state of Florida that apparently our Republican controlled government had to beg the federal government to step in this past Friday in a little reported story, begging them to send us more ventilators because we've run out here in the state of Florida. Nevertheless, DeSantis insists that school districts, school boards, whatever kind of administrators are putting these mass mandates in place. He says, you can not do this. And if you move forward with it, which again, almost all Florida schools started back already. But he says, if you do, I'm going to withhold your salary. Yes, you administrators of these schools doing nothing more than trying to protect our children. If you do that, you don't get
Paid,
Right? DeSantis is drunk off his own power that apparently these school districts don't even care about, which is the best thing. This is truly an emperor has no clothes moment. You know, everybody was afraid of these DeSantis threats at one point Broward county, which did put a mass mandate in place for schools, withdrew it after his threat. Then when they saw other people doing it, they said, you know what? Yeah, we're going to put it back because they realized DeSantis doesn't actually have the [inaudible] to band them from having mass mandates. He doesn't have the authority to strip funding from their schools. He doesn't have the [inaudible] to withhold their pay.
He's pretending he does. And the more these counties, the more these administrators stand up and say, what are you going to do about it? You want to take away my pay have fun. I'll see you in court. And we all know how that's going to work out because we've already, by the way, seen similar instances of this in states that have tried to ban funding to sanctuary cities, courts have already ruled you can't, you can't strip funding from, from areas like this. You can't inject your politics into the funding of these organizations. These states, these localities counties, whatever it is, you can't do that. There's already court precedent that could easily be applied to this specific situation, which would of course, and Ron DeSantis barreling down,
Uh, in a,
A flaming wreckage at this point. But again, COVID is exploding in this state. Thousands and thousands of children have been dying Agnos with COVID here. We have children in the ICU throughout the state. The Delta variant is far more dangerous from what we know so far in children than the original COVID and Ron DeSantis, because he wants to pander to the dumbest of the dumb here in the state of Florida is not allowing these mask mandates to go in place. We have to protect our children. And honestly, I applaud these administrators who are standing up actually risking not being paid because let's not forget even if they do challenge us in court and when they could end up going a while without being paid, but they're still willing to do it because they're putting the health, safety and welfare of these children above own
Livelihoods. And
I applaud them for that. Ron DeSantis is not the all powerful dictator of Florida that he wants to be. And the courts eventually you're going to prove that to him. And also just as a point of order, we also found out on Tuesday that the number of deaths we have had so far here in the state of Florida is actually greater than Ron DeSantis, his victory margin when he won his election as governor, if this continues, especially because was a lot of the anti-vax people happened to be on one side of the political aisle, he might literally kill off so much of his base that he's destined for a loss in 2022, I would love for him to lose. I don't want anybody to have to die to make that happen, though.
